Gait Scan in Cork

A few steps for a comprehensive evaluation of foot function.

Your foot is in contact with the ground for about 0.8 of a second when walking and about 0.25 seconds when running. It is impossible to determine normal or abnormal foot function with the naked eye in a quarter of a second! During a Gait Scan, you will be asked to walk or run across a pressure plate containing over 4000 sensors. The system will record your timing sequences as you walk.

We offer a €35 gait scan visit to all new patients.

Your first visit will take approximately 40 minutes.

We would recommend a Gait Scan if:

– You have sore feet on a regular basis
– You have pain in your knees or ankles
– You spend long periods of time standing
– You practice running sport regularly
– Standing, walking, running give you pain
– You have visible foot problems
– One of your legs is shorter than the other
– You have knock-knees or bow legs
– Your shoes wear out unevenly
– Your feet ‘toe-out’ when you walk

The initial Gait Scan will allow us to have a clear picture of your foot mechanics and determine whether you would benefit from wearing custom-made foot orthotics. The Gait Scan system records timing sequences during gait and captures the relative pressure for each of ten distinct anatomical landmarks. The result is an extremely accurate detection of imbalances and other indicators of common lower limb and foot conditions.

1. Gait Scan

As you walk across the pressure plate, over 4000 sensors will scan the surface of your feet.

2. Mapping and Analysis

From your step, the computer displays visual representations of the pressure under your foot.

3. Printed Report

The report findings will help to evaluate your foot function and diagnose faulty foot function.

4. Manufacturing

Your custom-made orthotic insoles (if necessary) will be manufactured and ready to collect in 2-3 weeks!

After discussing your Gait Scan report and if you are happy with it, we can order high-quality orthotics for you. They’ll be ready to collect in 2-3 weeks.
